Halliday throws for 406 in WSU spring game
SPOKANE - Connor Halliday, who will be a junior this fall, passed for 406 yards and three touchdowns for the Crimson at Washington State's Crimson and Gray spring football game Saturday afternoon before 8,340 at Albi Stadium.
Halliday, son of former Coeur d'Alene High quarterback Duane Halliday, completed 38 of 58 passes for 406 yards and was intercepted twice. The Gray rallied with two touchdowns and a two-point conversion to edge the Crimson 22-21.
Gabe Marks caught 11 passes for 107 yards and two touchdowns for the Gray. Austin Apodaca, who will be a redshirt freshman, passed for 279 yards and one TD, and rushed for one more score for the Gray.
Quarterback Jesse Brown took over for both teams late in the fourth quarter and capped the day by finding Marks in the right corner of the end zone for a 21-yard touchdown. Instead of kicking the extra point for the tie, the Gray team went for the win and Brown hit a wide-open Theron West in the left side of the end zone for the game-winning two-point conversion.
Safety Taylor Taliulu and linebacker Justin Sagote led the Cougars defensively with 11 tackles apiece, with Taliulu also picking off a pass. The Cougar defense tallied 10 “sacks” and recovered one fumble to go along with interceptions by Taliulu and linebacker Jared Byers.
WSU, which concludes spring practice Tuesday in Pullman, opens its season Aug. 31 at Auburn.
