Marie O'Brien Steele, 91

| April 11, 2013 9:00 PM

Marie O’Brien Steele was born Aug. 10, 1921, in Berkeley, Calif. She passed away peacefully on April 4, 2013, at Life Care Center in Coeur d’Alene.

In 1966 she moved to Coeur d’Alene with her husband Jack O’Brien and daughter Candy.

In 1968 she opened her first clothing store along with her daughter Candy in the old Coeur d’Alene Mall and opened another store in Hayden Lake. Then they relocated to downtown Coeur d’Alene and finally a store in The Coeur d’Alene Resort, Marie O’Briens Boutique. She retired in her early ’70s.

She married Joe Corolla in 1973. He passed way too soon, four years later. In 1982 she met and married Hugh Steele. He was a wonderful part of our family for 30 years. He passed away Oct. 12, 2012, at The Four Seasons.

Since a young girl she had a passion for writing poetry. She loved animals, especially dogs and always had a dog or cat by her side. She enjoyed gardening (vegetables, fruit and flowers), which she learned as a young girl from her dad, who was a professional gardener. Dancing was a big part of her life for many years. While living in California she worked at Arther Murray Studios giving ballroom demonstrations. She also loved going to luncheons with her family and friends.

Marie is survived by her daughter, Candy Hunt (husband John); granddaughters, Chennell Bingaman (husband Greg) and Tiffany Schlotthauer (husband Brent); great-grandsons, Peyton and Preston; and great-granddaughter Isabelle Candis.

She will be deeply missed by her family and will be in our hearts forever.

A very special thanks to the staff at North Star (Fairwinds), where she lived for 7 1/2 years. Also, a grateful thanks to The Four Seasons and Dr. Susan Melchiore with On Site For Seniors for their loving care. Our family wishes to thank all the staff at Life Care Center in Coeur d’Alene. Their compassion and care during her last two weeks gave our family much comfort.

At Marie’s request, no service will be held. A private family memorial will be held at a later date. Please visit Marie’s memorial and sign her online guest book at www.yatesfuneralhomes.com.
