Time to take them off

| April 6, 2013 9:00 PM

Studded snow tires must be removed from vehicles in Idaho before May 1.

The use of studded tires is legal in Idaho from Oct. 1 through April 30.

A ticket in Idaho would draw fine of $67.

Special exemptions from the prohibited dates may be granted by the Idaho Transportation Board if it is found by the board that enhancements to public safety outweigh the increased pavement wear.

Start and stop dates for studs in other states include:

* Washington, Nov. 1-March 31;

* Montana, Oct. 1-May 31; and

* Oregon, Nov. 1-April 1.

Idaho drivers in other states must adhere to those states' dates.
