FIRED: But could be far worse off

I feel so sorry for Coach Akey being fired so unexpectedly, but I feel more sorry about his remark that “losing a part of his salary will make it hard to feed his family.”

Coach, your salary is $375,000! Yes, you will lose about $105,000 but weren’t you saving some money all those years? And you will continue to receive $165,796 through the end of 2014.

Before you cry too hard, remember that many of us seniors here in North Idaho have to live on $800-$900 a month Social Security and all living expenses have to come out of that. No pensions, no bailouts, just our Social Security and no help even from our own families.

You and your family will do just fine, Coach — but many of us seniors won’t be so lucky.
