Stephen “Steve” Joseph Groves, 66

Beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother, Stephen “Steve” Joseph Groves, 66, of Mullan, passed away Oct. 23, 2012, at the family home in Mullan. He was born Aug. 3, 1946, in Lewistown, Mont. Steve was the son of Edwin S. and Mildred (Vogel) Groves.

Steve attended and graduated from the Riverton High School in Riverton, Wyo., in 1964. He then served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam war. Steve furthered his education while serving in the Navy.

Steve married Nieves “Bess” Cabenlit on March 17, 1967, in Olongapo City, Phillipines.

Steve chose the U.S. Navy as his career and served as an electronics technician before his retirement.

Steve, Bess and family moved to the Silver Valley in the summer of 1984 from Hawaii.

Steve attended the St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Mullan and served as a representative for the Foreign Student Exchange Program. Steve, Bess and family provided a warm and welcome home to nine exchange students throughout the years.

Steve loved and enjoyed his family, fishing, carpentry (he had built the family home), painting, playing guitar and singing, automotive repair and was a jack of all trades. He repaired electronic equipment for many Silver Valley residents, as well as, for the Mullan School District.

Steve is survived by his beloved wife of 45 years, Bess Groves of the family home in Mullan; three sons, Edgar Joseph Groves of Texas, Stanley W. (Julie) Groves of Hayden and Samuel Douglas Groves of Mullan; four grandchildren, Michael Joseph Groves, Summer Groves, Dakota Groves and Paris Groves; two great-grandchildren, Adam and Madison Groves; and two sisters, Nichole Koski of Coeur d’Alene and Tony Hayes of Post Falls. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Steve was preceded in death by his parents.

Cremation was held and memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 29, 2012, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Mullan with Father Tom Loucks officiating. A reception and a gathering of family and friends will be held at the church following services.
