OBAMA: The Paper Tiger is in charge

| October 24, 2012 9:00 PM

Sometimes it helps to witness history and recall the events… That is the case with me as the Cuban Missile Crisis began Oct. 22, 1962.

At that time I was a member of a B-52 crew stationed in Orlando, Fla., McCoy AFB…Not all that far from the secret site where Russian missiles were being assembled in Cuba.

President Kennedy did not delay and demanded that the Russians (Soviet Union), under Nikita Khrushchev, withdraw their missiles from Cuba.

Back at my base in Orlando all our B-52s were made ready for anything that might happen and deployed to forward bases in the USA.

My wife, 2-year-old son and 6-month-old daughter were to stay at McCoy. Within 24 hours, McCoy AFB was a multi-service camp. Army, Marines, Naval forces were made ready for whatever they were called to do.

There were thousands of fighting men bivouacked on runway aprons, housing areas, the golf course, etc. …The Russian Premier was not known for his even temperament…he was a nut. Democratic President Kennedy ordered a naval blockade of Cuba. Six, that is six, days later the missiles and sites were dismantled and the Crisis was over.

I read most of the letters posted in The Press and find that there is an attitude of distrust for citizens of different political views and it seems a hate for those who disagree with their agenda. That is what this Democratic president has accomplished, he has divided what was a common cause of the citizenry into separate camps. He encouraged the so called War or Wall Street. Allowing hoodlums to run amuck and destroy property.

I didn’t have to be a Democrat to respect President Kennedy. He was not perfect but he was a defender of Freedom He respected the Oath Of Office and our Flag. He didn’t apologize for his presidential decisions or the USA. He did not attempt to change the Constitution or the Bill Of Rights. He would never think of giving part of Alaska to the Soviet Union as our president is doing.

The next 16 years of the Cold War was a Stand-Off between Soviet Russia and the United States of America. The arms race was over but not mothballed …entirely.

A Paper Tiger is not a threat to anyone.

We should not apologize to those who would like to see us destroyed.
