Post Falls, Priest River advance to state

GRANGEVILLE - Brenna Meehan had five kills, 20 assists and 14 digs for the Trojans in a 25-20, 25-19, 25-17 win against the Borah Lions in a state 5A play-in match Saturday at Grangeville High.

Post Falls, which was fourth in the Region 1 tournament, won at No. 2 seed Lake City and No. 3 seed Coeur d'Alene in loser-out match to advance to Saturday's match. Post Falls (17-22) faces Timberline of Boise to open state tournament play Friday at Bonneville High in Idaho Falls.

"As tough as our league is, it's a privilege to be going," Post Falls coach Willow Hanna said. "Our girls definitely earned it this week. We were aggressive with our serving and offense and I was really pleased with how we played."

Savannah Hill had nine kills and five aces, Danielle Failor five kills and four blocks, Natalie Sarff five kills and Brooke Litalien 12 digs for Post Falls.

MCCALL - Melissa Trost had 10 kills for the Spartans in a 25-20, 25-19, 25-21 win against the Indians in a state 3A play-in match at McCall-Donnelly High.

"We're excited," Priest River coach Kati Bodecker said. "We're going to take it one game at a time down there. I think we've got a good, experienced group of players than have grown closer and we hope to compete well down there."

Taryn Eldore had 17 assists, Kelsie Fink five blocks and five aces, Jill Weimer seven digs and Karly Douglas seven digs for Priest River (20-8), which opens the state tournament against Kimberly on Friday at Madison High in Rexburg.

Timberlake (19-11) will open state against Sugar-Salem on Friday at 8 a.m. PDT.

Lakeside

ST. MARIES - Ruth Haynes had 12 blocks and eight kills for the Knights, who lost 25-22, 25-19, 25-9 to the Knights in a state 1A Division I play-in match at St. Maries High.

"We gave it a good effort," Lakeside coach Jan Mitchell said. "We started out very well and were neck and neck with them, but didn't finish the first game well. We were right with them in the second and then they basically outplayed us."

Talia Hendrickx had 15 digs, Avery Brown-Sonder 20 assists and two aces and Analeasha George two aces for Lakeside, which finishes 11-9.
