FOOD BANK: Pay It Forward donations appreciated

On Sept. 29, we held our annual Pay It Forward for the benefit of the ABC Food Bank. Thanks to all who donated, we raised a total of $557 and collected about 350 pounds of food.

We would like to thank the following businesses: Northwoods Veterinary Hospital, Country Boy Cafe, Country Clinical Massage, Additions Plus Construction, Little Town Market, Bomar Logging & Construction, Merritt Brothers Lumber and Lopez Leathers, all of Athol. Thank you to North Idaho Propane and Glamour Hair Design, both of Hayden. A big thank you also to Bayview Mercantile in Bayview, Shirley McFadden, and the community turnout for dinner and food donations. It was our most successful dinner yet, and I look forward to topping it next year.

Thanks again,

MEET: People make the event successful

On Thursday, Oct. 4, 720 children (plus family and friends) converged at the Kootenai County Fairgrounds to participate in the 23rd annual Elementary Cross-Country Meet for the Coeur d'Alene School District. This cross-country meet involves all ten elementary schools. The success of this program takes many hours and involves the work of many people. We would like to take this opportunity to thank some of those people:

- First and foremost the parents who allow their children to participate.

- All of the coaches who are the elementary PE Specialists and parent volunteers.

- Kootenai County Fairgrounds (Chris Holloway, Margi Domme, Jon Johnson, Allan Dykstra)

- Cathy Compton and the Coeur d'Alene High School cross-country team for pacing all of the races.

- All of the volunteers on race day who were taking pictures, handing out ribbons/medals, being timers and spotters.

- John Ingalls and Tim Martin of the city of Coeur d'Alene for delivering cones and barriers for our use.

- Craig Gordon of Coeur d'Alene Concrete Cutting for delivering the candlestick cones for the finishing chute.

- Gozzer Ranch for their donation to help with the cost of the fairgrounds and the sound system.

- Ironman Foundation Inc. for the many grant requests for timers, flagging, and so much more.

- Ed Ducar and the National Dairy Council for the post-race drink of milk.

- Kootenai County Fire & Rescue

- Kootenai County Sheriff's Department

- Kiwanis for their help in the parking lot

- NIC men's basketball team along with their coach, Jared Phay

- Hayden Peak Fitness Club - the 5:30 a.m. spinning class! (especially Bette Price)

- Ruby Frog Entertainment for an excellent sound system

And finally a BIG thank you to Chris and Vern Newby who started this program 23 years ago and are still actively involved with it and just look what you started!
