Jean Marie Maass, 90

| October 20, 2012 9:15 PM

Jean Marie Maass, 90, passed away Sept. 5, 2012, in Coeur d’Alene after a short illness. A private family ceremony was held Oct. 14, 2012, where her ashes were scattered at sea off the coast of Ventura, Calif.

Jean was born June 4, 1922, in Los Angeles, Calif., the daughter of Frank and Elizabeth Farr. She grew up and attended school in the area, graduating from Santa Monica High School. Jean spent her childhood, and teen years, on the beaches of Southern California where she would participate in long distance ocean swimming and Adagio acrobatic dancing at Muscle Beach, Calif. She was also a majorette and performed in many Southern California events.

In 1941 Jean married Eric Maass and they settled in Manhattan Beach, Calif., where they raised their four beautiful children. She worked in the medical field and was an active member of the Trinity Lutheran Church. Her home was always open to everyone, and she took in many that needed a place to stay. Jean’s love of cooking, baking, sewing, quilting and knitting kept her family, friends and those in need, fed, clothed and warm. She enjoyed needlepoint and embroidery where she made many items for her loved ones that will be cherished for our lifetimes.

After retirement, Jean and Eric moved to Sandpoint in 1989. She became involved at the First Lutheran Church in the women’s auxiliary, quilting for baptisms, feeding the hungry, the Make A Wish Foundation, Habitat for Humanity, Bonner Gospel Mission and Coeur d’Alene Homes. Her volunteer work always filled her heart with joy.

Jean is survived by two sons, Ronald of Willits, Calif., and Eric of Ventura, Calif.; six grandchildren including locally, Ronn Bennett of Hayden; and 11 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Eric, daughter Gloria Linvall of Sagle and son Jeffrey of Sandpoint.

Because of her tender heart, wit, creativity, compassion and love of God, our loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt will live on in our hearts through the beautiful memories that she created for us all.
