PROPS: Unions do a lot of good

| October 19, 2012 9:30 PM

Have you noticed those weekly full-page ads about Propositions 1, 2 and 3 and the National Education Association? It is interesting to note that the ads are paid for by Melaleuca. Please Google Melaleuca and read all about it and its founder Frank Vandersloot. Pay attention to the article at Forbes.com: If You Believe.

Now for some facts: The teachers of Idaho INVITED the NEA to help us disseminate other information about the propositions to the citizens of Idaho. One of Mr. Luna’s arguments for the new laws is that tenured teachers cannot be fired. Obviously, Mr. Luna doesn’t understand what tenure means. It means only that teachers be given a fair hearing before dismissal. Bad teachers in the classrooms means that administrators somewhere along the line have not done their job. The union has not and will not be controlling our schools no matter what the outcome of the election is.

I have been a member of the NEA and IEA for more than 40 years and have never been asked or coerced to do anything I did not want to do. The union has helped to insure better learning conditions for the students in Idaho. Also the IEA has a Children’s Fund which teachers my access to purchase glasses, dental care, clothing, etc. for needy children. The fund even purchased a washer and dryer for a family.

Please vote AGAINST Propositions 1, 2 and 3 unless you want out-of-state interests to control education in Idaho.
