PREP CROSS COUNTRY: Coeur d'Alene girls win regionals again with perfect team score

Coeur d'Alene High freshman Emily Callahan won the 5A Region 1 girls race in 18 minutes, 55.7 seconds on Thursday at Hells Gate State Park in Lewiston, leading the Vikings to the team title.

Coeur d'Alene totaled a perfect score of 15 for the second straight year.

In the 2A girls race, Magen Daniels of Coeur d'Alene Charter won the girls race in 20:36.2 as the Panthers claimed the district title.

The state meet in all four classifications is next Saturday at Hells Gate State Park in Lewiston.

5A: Coeur d'Alene's Punky Duran (18:56.8), Kara Story (18:57.6), Josie Brown (19:09.9) and Krista Story rounded out the top five.

Pershia Anderson was sixth in 20:35.4 for Post Falls, which qualified by finishing second.

Leanne Asper finished eighth for Lake City in 20:52.60 and Noelle Ball was ninth for Coeur d'Alene in 21:03.90.

Jake Finney won the boys race for Lake City in 16:33.5, with teammates Kyler Little second in 16:33.5, Scott Knapp sixth in 17:35.5 and Marcus Ross eighth in 17:41.8.

Michael Dunton was third for Coeur d'Alene in 16:51.4, followed by Riley Estes in fourth in 16:57.7 and Kenny Colbert in fifth at 17:20.4.

4A: Casey Noye finished fourth for Lakeland's boys, who finished second to Moscow.

Garrett Johnson (18:15.6) and Cody Peters (18:28) finished fifth and seventh, respectively, for Lakeland to qualify for state.

Aimee Crowe was fourth in 21:10.2 and Bekah Kastning seventh in 21:56.2 for Lakeland's girls.

Moscow won the girls championship.

2A: Maddie Iott was fourth in 21:12.6 to lead Coeur d'Alene Charter. Katey Mae McInturff (21:35) of Kootenai was fifth.

Leif Fredericks was second in 16:55.7 for Coeur d'Alene Charter, which finished second to Logos. David Conway was fourth in 17:19.6.

3A: Rachel Ward won the girls race in 19:21 seconds for Timberlake at the 3A District 1 meet at Pinehurst Golf Course.

Natalie Herring was third in 20:39, Jamey Weishaar fifth in 21:29 and Reina Powell eighth in 22:11 for Timberlake, which has won the last three state championships.

Ryan Richardson won the boys race in 16:17 and teammate Sam St. Mars was fourth in 17:04 for Timberlake, which finished second to Bonners Ferry.
