Burglary suspects arrested

COEUR d'ALENE - A 34-year-old Hayden man was arrested Wednesday and charged with felony residential burglary.

Jakob D. Richards was arrested at his residence by Coeur d'Alene Police in connection with a burglary that occurred on Balta Lane in the Landings subdivision on Oct. 9, according to a press release.

Police said Richards admitted to his alleged role in the burglary and stated he traded the gun he stole from the residence for drugs.

Richards was charged with an additional count of burglary for an alleged theft from the Best Buy store that occurred on Oct. 6. In that case, he allegedly walked into the store and attempted to conceal a graphics card in his pocket.

Separately, police said Mathew J. Afana, 40, of Spokane, was arrested by Coeur d'Alene police at Best Tires at 3020 N. Government Way at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

When officers arrived, Afana was being detained by the owners of Best Tire, according to a press release.

The owners had learned that Afana allegedly was stealing tires and selling them.

A search warrant was served on Afana's shop, at 3024 N. Government Way.

Allegedly recovered from this building was approximately $5,000 worth of tires allegedly taken from Best Tire, police said. Afana was charged with possession of stolen property.
