HIGHRISE: It's a low blow

| October 14, 2012 9:00 PM

When or if the broker did not fully disclose to the developer that he then knew that nearby neighbors would (as discussed with him carefully several years prior), apply stiff opposition including likely lawsuits, if a high rise on the Mudge property was planned, would he have bought?

What is also “unfortunate” is when the developer realizes this prior opposition and that he bought all this trouble when he signed the sales contract, what choices does he make? Perhaps the terms of his contract required “full disclosure?” Is it possible his seller took him for a ride?

Maybe when he goes to court he should address this situation, instead of fighting the innocent nearby neighbors of this proposed bad idea. After all, all the neighbors ever wanted is to live peacefully and see the lake.

When the city made the decision to back a project in a neighborhood negatively affecting more than a hundred resident citizens without neighborly consideration, it reminds me of using the same kind of imperial attitude that U.S. Government had when Obamacare was rammed down everybody’s throat. The city of Coeur d’Alene opted for creating a view and light blocker right in our face, and we are supposed to shut up and take it.

It is well known in our community who the broker is and who will be handling the rents, sales and publicity of this project if completed, and who’s connected to whom. I always wondered why the mayor was facing a recall awhile back. Perhaps we do actually need to get rid of this “Boss Tweed” and a local Tammany Hall style of City Government and get some folks into authority that understand that the city of Coeur d’Alene is for all the citizens and if anyone must be considered first it will be the folks who are living and working here, not slick operators from out of state, with deep pockets and an architect.

The Comprehensive Plan for our city clearly describes that existing views and open areas are part of the active philosophy laid down by our fellow citizens. Why and how can such a gross situation like this even be considered? We don’t make and then agree on guidelines in order to break them over the citizenry heads for whom they are created. This is crazy!
