Record run
COEUR d'ALENE - Last chance.
If you want to see the best-selling show in Lake City Playhouse history, call right now, 667-1323. If you wait until tonight with plans to buy tickets at the door for "Oklahoma!" it might be too late. The musical ends its 22-show run with a final performance at 7:30.
"Oklahoma is always a classic crowd pleaser," said Playhouse artistic director George Green. "Our production brings to light some great relationships often overlooked in the 'big picture' of a show of this size."
The Playhouse has had nearly $40,000 in ticket sales for Oklahoma! Its sales record was once held by "Evita," which had sales of nearly $20,000 in 2010.
It has been topped since by "Fiddler on the Roof" and "Urinetown" in 2011, and "Rent" in 2012.
And now, Oklahoma! is No. 1.
Audiences have loved it, with many attending twice, consistently filling the intimate theater on Garden Avenue. Most have praised it as "a delightful and charming show."
Green said the Playhouse is enjoying success because it continues to grow and become a destination location for Coeur d'Alene.
"I feel that even though we have a few items still on the agenda from years past to clear up, we have become a solid and ethical business in our community," he said. "More and more businesses are recognizing that partnering with us is to their advantage.
"Patrons leave happy and return with high expectations. The building is looking fantastic and the shows are wonderful."
