Northern Lakes to hold events on levy proposal
The Northern Lakes Fire District, which covers Hayden, Rathdrum, Twin Lakes, Garwood and Hayden Lake, invites the public to attend events related to its permanent override levy proposal headed to voters on Nov. 6.
Informational meetings will be held from 6:30-8 p.m. on the following dates:
- tonight, Garwood station, 1114 E. Hudlow Road;
- Oct. 24, Rathdrum station, 13876 W. Highway 53; and
- Oct. 25, Hayden station, 125 W. Hayden Ave.
There will also be a tour to show the levy issues on Wednesday from 1:30-3:30 p.m. It starts at the Hayden station, covers the training facility near the airport and ends in the Garwood. Attendees must provide their own transportation.
The $1.6 million levy would allow the district to implement a 15-year plan to construct a third station north of Hayden in four to six years, provide staffing for the site, improve an existing training facility and provide vehicle and equipment replacement programs.
The funding would not go toward salary increases.
To the owner of a $200,000 home with a homeowner's exemption, approval would mean a $64 annual increase in taxes or $5.25 per month based on today's property values. A super majority (67 percent) is needed for the proposal to pass.
