Cd'A Fire joins Nixle Emergency Notification System

| October 8, 2012 9:00 PM

COEUR d'ALENE - In July, the Coeur d'Alene Fire Department joined with the Coeur d'Alene Police Department in the use of the Police Department's Nixle Emergency Notification System.

The Coeur d'Alene Fire Department decided to join the Nixle System after a series of wildland fires occurred earlier this year where it was later determined that a number of residents in these natural disaster areas did not receive emergency notification of the fire.

The system allows homes, residents, and visitors without a standard landline telephone service to receive emergency notifications within the zip code provided. Over 5,000 agencies use the system to communicate with residents by text message and email at no cost to the city or the public to join. Instructions to join the system are located on the front page of the Fire Department website at www.cdafire.org.

The system does not replace the 911 service or any notification systems already in place. It merely enhances technology for more diverse and changing user groups. For more information about the system, contact Glenn Lauper, Deputy Fire Chief, at 769-2340.
