St. Maries places ninth at Crossover

SPOKANE - St. Maries finished ninth at the 64-team Crossover Classic on Saturday.

St. Maries lost to Moses Lake 25-18, 25-21 and Shadle Park 25-14, 25-23, but then beat Northwest Christian 25-20, 25-18 to advance to the silver bracket, where it beat Kellogg 25-23, 15-25, 15-12 and lost to Gonzaga Prep 25-19, 25-22 and Rogers 25-23 to finish third - ninth overall.

"I thought we progressed with each game," St. Maries coach Missy Asbury said. "All the scores were really close. Our girls fought hard and didn't give up. It's probably the best they've played all season and we're peaking at the right point."

Maddy McQueen had 18 digs, Kathy Epler 64 assists, Mariah Gladden 36 kills and three blocks, Lakin Anxo 14 kills and 21 digs and Kylie Glidden three blocks for St. Maries (13-13), which travels to Timberlake on Tuesday.

Post Falls went 1-2 in pool play, losing to Lakeside (Nine Mile Falls, Wash.) 25-17, 25-16 on Friday and Blanchet 25-20, 25-19 before beating Liberty Christian 25-13, 25-11 to advance to the silver bracket, where the Trojans lost to Sandpoint 27-25, 26-24, beat West Valley 25-19, lost to University 25-14 and lost to Tekoa-Oakesdale 25-20.

"We changed up a couple things for the tournament and the kids adjusted well to it," Post Falls coach Willow Hanna said.

Danielle Failor had 33 kills and seven blocks, Sydney Wiggins 23 assists, Brenna Meehan 90 assists, Savannah Hill seven aces, Brooke Litalien 26 digs and Amy Booth 24 digs for Post Falls (13-20), which travels to Rathdrum on Thursday for a tri-match with Lakeland and Priest River.

Coeur d'Alene opened the day by going 0-3 in pool play, losing to Prairie 25-24, 25-23, Gonzaga Prep 25-22, 25-23 and Colville 25-23, 25-21 before bouncing back to win the bronze bracket against Richfield 25-21, 25-20.

"We had a slow start in pool play in our first two matches," Coeur d'Alene coach Dee Pottenger said. "We came back and played well against Colville, but it was a tough, tough pool."

Kayla McGlathery had 59 kills and 10 blocks on the day, Ashley Hammons 48 assists and 23 digs, Megan Ramseyer 50 assists and six aces, Makayla Strand six aces, Amy Norris 25 digs. Coeur d'Alene also beat Heritage 25-18, 25-13, Northwest Christian 25-19, 25-22 and Brewster 25-23, 25-23 in bracket play.

Coeur d'Alene (16-10) hosts Lake City on Tuesday.

COEUR d'ALENE - Courtney Lawson had 10 aces, eight assists, five kills and seven digs for the Royals in a 25-19, 14-25, 25-21, 25-17 loss to the Knights in a Mountain Christian League match at Project CDA.

North Idaho Christian (6-5, 5-4 MCL) hosts Kootenai Thunder on Monday at Project CDA.
