SEATTLE - Anna Valentine scored on an assist from Callie Martin in the 55th minute as North Idaho College defeated the Seattle U club team 1-0 on Saturday.

"The goal was set up by a good buildup from our backs," NIC coach Dan Hogan said. "The ball was played to Martin just in the attacking half of the field. Martin beat a Seattle U player and slipped a pass to Valentine, who was even with the right post and Valentine hit a right-footed shot which beat the keeper just inside the left post."

With a forfeit by Edmonds Community College on Friday, NIC improves to 8-3-1, making the Cardinals eligible for the district tournament in Cheyenne, Wyo., in November. NIC hosts the Idaho club team next Saturday at noon.

First half - none. Second half - 1, NIC, Anna Valentine (Callie Martin), 55:00.

Shots on goal - NIC 21, Sea 8.

Saves - NIC, Hannah Slinkard 3; Sea, Alex Rodriguez 3.

PRICE, Utah - HayleeMae Dennis had 13 kills, three blocks and 18 digs as the sixth-ranked North Idaho College volleyball team defeated the Utah State-Eastern Utah Golden Eagles 25-18, 25-15, 25-10 in a Scenic West Athletic Conference match.

"Overall, it was a great weekend," NIC coach Kandice Gregorak said. "And it gave us some confidence after going 1-2 the last two weekends. We're now 3-2 in the conference, so the girls should feel pretty good about themselves. Everyone got a lot of playing time this weekend."

Rosie Robinson had 19 digs and four aces and Brooklyn Bradbury had 26 assists for NIC (15-2, 3-2 SWAC), which travels to Snow College in Ephraim, Utah, on Friday and travels to Salt Lake on Saturday.

Utah State-Eastern Utah is 10-12, 1-4.
