PYP: Specific evils missing

| October 6, 2012 9:15 PM

Unbelievably our school board, whose mission should be to encourage and enlighten our students, has chosen to inhibit the free flow of ideas. The quotes that have come from some of the critics and our school board members are truly stunning.

I never imagined every time I drove by Hayden Meadows that a socio-political culture war was waging within the hallways. Thank you, Mr. Koler, for pointing that out.

Thank you Ms. Seddon for making sure none of our students become global citizens. It will now be much easier for them to head off to the wilderness, join a militia and keep a watch out for those U.N. black helicopters coming over the horizon.

Thank you Mr. Purtee for being so pure of spirit that only your very narrow definition of values will be taught. There’s no reason for students to follow their own path when yours is clearly the only right way to go.

What is so obviously missing from all this is one single specific example of objectionable curriculum. I would love to read the textbook page or paragraph, or have the teaching method explained that is subversive in any way. Like most who make vague arguments, I suspect there is no real evidence to support their position.

What’s amazing is seeing conservative members of our community afraid of freedom and thoughts. Have more faith in our teachers and kids. Learning is actually a good thing.
