PREP ROUNDUP: Bayley's 3 TDs, dominant defense lead Hawks in rout

RATHDRUM - Derek Bayley threw three touchdown passes, Corey Hansel ran for two scores, and the Lakeland Hawks won their fourth straight game with a 42-0 nonleague rout of Colville on Friday night at Corbit Field.

"Colville struggled to get first downs against our defense," Lakeland offensive coordinator Mike Bayley said. "We dominated the game on both sides of the ball and were balanced offensively."

The Hawks (4-2) continue nonleague play next Friday at Timberlake.

Colville dipped to 2-4.

SPIRIT LAKE - Preston Rhodes ran for 146 yards and three touchdowns, Dan Buck added 122 yards and one TD on 12 carries, and the Tigers racked up 506 rushing yards in an Intermountain League rout of Bonners Ferry (0-6, 0-1 IML) at Van Tuinstra Memorial Field.

"We quit playing after taking a 21-0 lead and let Bonners Ferry back in the game with a touchdown before the half," Timberlake coach Roy Albertson said. "We got after our kids about keeping their heads in the game and they responded with a huge third quarter both offensively and defensively."

Forrest Herring added 57 yards and a pair of TDs on six carries for the Tigers (3-3, 2-0), who host Lakeland next Friday.

GRANGEVILLE - The host Bulldogs broke open the game with a 28-point third quarter to defeat the visiting Lumberjacks in the Central Idaho League opener for both schools.

St. Maries (2-4) travels to Riverside next Friday.

Grangeville, which won the state 2A title last season, improves to 5-1.

PLUMMER - Matthew Speelman ran for 147 yards and two touchdowns on eight carries to lead Kootenai past Lakeside in a North Star League game that ended in the third quarter due to the 45-point mercy rule.

Kootenai's Jake Pfeiffer caught an 8-yard touchdown pass from Marshall Willms and added a second score by returning an interception 79 yards for a TD.

Kootenai (4-2, 4-1) hosts Mullan next Friday.

Johnathon Nomee completed 9 of 16 passes for 83 yards and two interceptions for Lakeside (0-5, 0-3), which plays at Prairie next Friday.

COEUR d'ALENE - Kayla McGlathery had 25 kills, Ashley Hammons added 26 assists and Coeur d'Alene rallied past Flathead of Kalispell, Mont., 23-25, 26-24, 20-25, 25-17, 15-13 in nonleague play.

Amy Norris led the Vikings in digs with 21 and Sydney Williams had a team-high seven blocks.

"It was a great battle against a really good team," Coeur d'Alene coach Dee Pottenger said. "I'm proud of the effort from our girls."

The Vikings (12-7), who also received 24 assists and four aces from Megan Ramseyer, play in the Crossover Classic today at Spokane.

Kelly finishes 30th

at Lewiston invite

LEWISTON - Sean Kelly was the top boys finisher for Post Falls in 30th place in 17 minutes and 47.72 seconds at the Lewiston Invitational at Hells Gate State Park.

Dylan Schilling was 42nd in 18:23.15, Spencer Miller 46th in 18:31.86, Drake Green 55th in 18:42.29, Jared Erickson 59th in 19:03.44, Chris Kirkeby 81th in 20:20.76 and Rory Loe 85th in 20:25.20 for Post Falls.

Paul Ryan of Logos won the 109-participant boys race in 16:02.78.

Amber Hensley was 28th in 21:20.70, Brianna Barnhill 44th in 22:11.56, Acadia Babin 50th in 22:39.40, Annie Gibson 56th in 23:08.79, Sike Christiansen 57th in 23:10.52 and Christiana Skarisky 66th in 24:12.71 for the Post Falls girls.

Emily Hamlin of Boise won the 97-participant girls race in 18:52.47.
