PREP SOCCER: Grytness returns to spark Hawks

RATHDRUM - Lakeland senior Colton Grytness had been waiting all year for Thursday's match against the Moscow Bears at Rotary Field.
Grytness returned from a torn meniscus suffered during the summer to score in the 60th minute as the Hawks defeated the Bears 2-1 in 4A Inland Empire League play.
"It was a pretty big night for Colton coming off injury," Lakeland coach Andrew Craig said. "He's been rehabbing a lot and it was a huge night for him. He came out and was able to get a goal and we're really excited to have him back."
Grytness was cleared to practice two weeks ago and after consulting his doctors, returned in time for senior night.
Lakeland (9-6-1, 4-0 4A IEL) will face the winner of Monday's 4A Region 1 tournament match pitting Moscow (3-9-2, 0-4) at Sandpoint (9-5-2, 2-2) on Wednesday in the championship game at Rathdrum.

SPOKANE VALLEY - Brett Dickman had three assists as the Lumberjacks beat the Panthers in a nonleague match.
Thomas Cook, Austin Cordell and Jesse Suchoski scored goals for St. Maries (9-6-1), which opens the 3A District 1-2 tournament on Saturday against Priest River at Rotary Field in Rathdrum at 1 p.m.

KELLOGG - Koral Yeager had nine saves for the Tigers in an Intermountain League win over the Wildcats at Teeters Field.
The win clinched an opening-round bye for second-seeded Timberlake in the 3A District 1-2 tournament, and the Tigers will face the winner of Saturday's Coeur d'Alene Charter-Orofino match on Tuesday at Rotary Field in Rathdrum.
Fourth-seeded Kellogg will play fifth-seeded Priest River on Saturday at 11 a.m. in Rathdrum.

Dakota St. Mark had five saves for Lakeland (5-10-1, 0-4 4A IEL), which returns to Moscow (2-1 in league) on Tuesday in the opening round of the 4A Region 1 tournament.

COEUR d'ALENE - Katie Baxter recorded a hat trick as the Panthers beat the Spartans in an Intermountain League match at Woodland Middle School.
Coeur d'Alene Charter (7-8-1, 5-4-1 IML) - in its first season as a program - finished tied for third in the league and will open the postseason with sixth-seeded Orofino (1-9 in league) by way of a coin flip. Kellogg (6-6-1, 5-4-1), which lost to Timberlake (8-4-2, 7-2-1), will be the fourth seed and faces Priest River (1-12, 1-9) in the opening round of the 3A District 1-2 tournament on Saturday at Rathdrum. Both matches are at 11 a.m.
Bonners Ferry and Timberlake have first-round byes and play the winners of Saturday's matches on Tuesday in Rathdrum.
