It is Wisconsin deja vu all over again. With the election of Tom Luna came the mandate to modernize our arcane, industrial revolution era designed public education system. Three bills successfully passed the Idaho legislature, S1108, S1110 and S1184. The bills streamlined the teacher hiring process, introduced the concept of accountability for performance, allowed teachers to receive bonuses for excellence and recognizing the need to be teaching our children how to function in the information age.
This was, of course, intolerable to the unions as it would transfer a modicum of control from their hands and into the parents hands. Reward excellence and discourage incompetence? The horror! Out of state pro-union money flooded into Idaho. Signatures were gathered and Referendums to approve (Yes vote) or reject (No vote) the new laws were put on the ballot.
We are now being bombarded with a slick, emotionally charged, union financed advertising campaign to convince us to vote against our own best interests; to abandon the new and return to the old. Why? Simple, the longer we have these improvements the more obvious their positive effects become. This will be another Wisconsin-like body blow to the public sector unions that wish to preserve their monopolies.
Do not be so gullible to think that the unions are doing this “for the kids.” They are doing this for the money and the power that comes with it. They are doing this for themselves.
Reward quality. Discourage incompetence. Promote education.
Vote YES on Propositions 1, 2 & 3.
