PREP SOCCER: Cordell, Dickman lead St. Maries boys past Orofino

ST. MARIES — Austin Cordell had two goals and an assist as the St. Maries Lumberjacks beat the Orofino Maniacs 3-0 in an Intermountain League match Tuesday.
Winds reached up to 30 miles an hour in the first half according to St. Maries coach Chris Renaldo.
“With the wind, we couldn’t hit the broad side of a barn in the first half,” Renaldo said. “But we had lots of chances. The wind was wicked down here today.”
Brett Dickman had a goal and two assists for St. Maries (8-6-1, 4-1-1 IML), which travels to Valley Christian on Thursday.
“We played very well and moved the ball very well,” Renaldo said. “All three goals were creative and it was good to see.”
Orofino is 2-3-0 in league.

RATHDRUM — Amber Fiedler scored two unassisted goals for the Hawks in a nonleague draw with the Bengals at Rotary Field.
Angelique Wetherelt had six saves for Lakeland (5-9-1), which travels to Moscow on Thursday.
Lewiston (2-9-4) travels to Post Falls on Thursday for a 5A Region 1 first-round tournament game against the Trojans at 3:30 p.m.
Coeur d’Alene plays at Lake City in Thursday’s other first-round game.

“I was happy with how we played tonight,” Coeur d’Alene Charter coach David Baxter said. “We’re looking forward to senior night on Thursday and the playoffs starting this weekend. This is something new for us and very exciting.”
Magen Daniels had two goals and an assist for Coeur d’Alene Charter (6-8-1, 4-4-1 IML), which hosts Priest River on Thursday at Woodland Middle School.
Orofino is 1-7 in league.
