Frank J. Pope Jr., 67

| October 3, 2012 8:41 PM

Frank was born on Dec. 14, 1945, in Coeur d’Alene, to Frank and Evelyn (Thompson) Pope. He joined his older siblings Merelyn and Gene. He was raised on the family farm in Garwood; from there he went to grade school in Athol and middle school and high school in Rathdrum.

Frank married Pamela Prater on Sept. 25, 1964. During the first couple years of their marriage Frank worked for Diamond Mill, and in 1966 he and his wife Pam took over an outfitters guide. Frank guided the elk hunters and Pam fashioned meals for them. Over his years Frank worked as truck driver hauling hay, logs, gravel and long hauling freight across the United States and Alaska.

In May 1967, they started their own family on the property at Garwood. After their second daughter was born they built a home and in the course of time filled their home with two more children, a son and another daughter.

Frank loved his family and devoted his life to providing for them and teaching them the value of family. He loved hunting, fishing, driving trucks, John Wayne films and the camaraderie of a good poker game with family and friends.

Frank passed away comfortably at home in Garwood, surrounded by his family and devoted wife of 48 years.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Evelyn Pope and father Frank Pope Sr.

He is survived by his loving wife, Pam Pope of Garwood; children, Kym and (Jeff) Stan of Coeur d’Alene, Karla Pope of Coeur d’Alene, Stan and (Pam) Pope of Garwood, and Konnie and (Brian) Howell of Rathdrum; his cherished 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; his brother, Gene and (Diane) Pope of Garwood; his sister, Merelyn McCallum; and numerous nieces and nephews.

We will be celebrating his life at 1 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 7, 2012, at 19028 N. Pope Road in Garwood (N. Highway 95, East on Garwood Road, first left off Garwood onto Pope Road).
