Andrew H. Pierce, 88

| October 3, 2012 9:00 PM

Andrew H. Pierce, 88, of Hayden, passed away Sept. 27, 2012. Andrew was born on Oct. 13, 1924, in Peoria, Ariz., to Andrew and Manilla (Potter) Pierce. Andrew grew up in Arizona and Southern California where he finished his education and Army enlistment.

Andrew met his wife, Virginia Lawing, in Los Angeles and they enjoyed a long, loving marriage of 60 years. Joining them in the marriage were Virginia’s two children, Edwin and Virginia “Lee.” A sad time in their lives was the death of Edwin in 2007.

Andrew and Virginia lived in Palmdale, Calif., for 30 years before moving to Bayview. They resided in Bayview for 10 years where Andrew was a volunteer fireman. They then moved to Hayden where they have had a home for the last 15 years.

Andrew was in road construction and enjoyed working with heavy machinery. His hobbies and interests included golfing and fishing, and making plans on what he was going to do with the machinery that he had acquired during his career.

Andrew is survived by his wonderful wife, Virginia of Hayden; brother Lloyd (Patty) of Bayview; loving daughter, Lee (Greg) Kapka of Tehachapi, Calif.; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandbaby.

A gathering is planned for 4 p.m. Friday, Oct. 5, 2012, in the Water Hazard at the Avondale Golf Club, 10745 N. Avondale Loop Road, Hayden — a favorite place for Andrew and Virginia.
