Burglary blamed on barbecue buyer
A Coeur d'Alene man believes the person who bought his barbecue grill offered in a Craigslist ad later returned and burglarized his home.
According to a police report, the victim told police that he returned home about 12:30 p.m. Friday to show the grill to a man who responded to the ad.
The man paid $60 cash, loaded the grill in his truck, and left.
The homeowner returned to work, then came home again at 4:30 and discovered his hunting bow and range finder in the garage, valued at $1,600, were gone.
There was no sign of forced entry to the home, but the dead bolt on the front door, which is always locked, was open, the report said.
The victim believes the Craigslist buyer was responsible for the theft. He said the man would have walked by the bench where the bow was sitting in the garage, and would have also met the man's dog and known it was not a threat.
The victim said the buyer wore gloves to examine the barbecue, which he thought was odd.
