Vancouver hands Chiefs first loss
VANCOUVER, British Columbia - Trevor Cheek scored the go-ahead goal from the left circle with 5:53 left after Spokane was unable to clear the puck out of its zone, and the Vancouver Giants (1-3) went on to hand the Chiefs their first loss, 3-2, in Western Hockey League play Sunday night before 5,148 at Pacific Coliseum.
Mike Aviani scored on the first shot of the game by Spokane (2-1), the third straight game he's scored in. Mitch Holmberg's power-play goal 8 minutes into the third period, which tied the game at 2, was his fifth goal in three games. Brendan Kichton got the assist, making him the all-time leading scoring defenseman in Chiefs' history with 185 points, passing Bryan McCabe, who played in the early 1990s.
Spokane plays host to Victoria on Friday.
