Kicking off Christmas for All

| November 23, 2012 8:26 PM

A mother's plea

She does what she can to provide for her young daughters, but this mom says it's nowhere near enough.

"Please help my girls," was her only request to Press Christmas for All.

It's been a tough year for the family of females.

The mom's battling ovarian cancer, and says it has spread to her hip bones. After six years with the same employer, she was let go.

The girls, two young teens and a toddler, never complain when they have to go without things, the mom said.

"They help me around the house and with each other when I'm too tired to," she told Christmas for All.

The mother is deeply grateful for the help from her "beautiful girls," and said that through it all, her daughters keep their grades up. One of them is maintaining a 3.8 grade point average, she said.

"They are so great to do this for me even when they have school activities," the mom said. "They deserve so much more than I am able to give."

With our readers' assistance, Press Christmas for All works to brighten the holidays for folks like this - people left jobless, homeless or who are barely making ends meet, individuals with disabilities or illnesses. Many are alone this holiday season.

Each year, our generous readers' donations allow us to assist thousands of Kootenai County families in need. Each day until Christmas, we will share the stories of those whose holiday memories will be a little happier because of Press Christmas for All .

Donations are collected, then distributed in the form of gift cards.

Press Christmas for All is a holiday charity now in its 27th year. It is managed as a nonprofit by The Hagadone Corp. Because it is run by volunteers from The Hagadone Corp. and their partners at Kootenai County Fire and Rescue, every penny raised is distributed in the form of gift cards from Shopko or Super 1 Foods, local retailers who also generously support the program. The cards can be used to buy food and gifts but not alcohol or tobacco products. All contributions are tax deductible.

The fundraising campaign officially kicks off today, but some of our readers like to get their holiday giving done early and they've already made donations. As we do every year, in the coming days, we will publish their names and the names of all donors. For those who give $500 or more, The Press will publish a photo of the donor as well.

To give, please send a check to:

Press Christmas for All 201 Second St. Coeur d'Alene, ID 83814

You can also call (208) 664-8176 weekdays between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. and donate by credit card.
