Cd'A girls cross country club wins at Nike NW regionals

EAGLE - Pantalones Rapidos, a cross country club team consisting of girls from recent state 5A champion Coeur d'Alene High, won the girls team championship with 52 points in the championship flight at the 5-kilometer Nike Northwest Regional meet Saturday at Eagle Island State Park to advance to nationals Dec. 1 in Portland.

Kara Story finished 10th in 18 minutes, 44.4 seconds for Pantalones Rapidos. Emily Callahan was 14th in 18:50.2, Punky Duran 15th in 18:52.1 and Josie Brown 16th in 18:53.6. The team had a combined score of 52 points, 29 better than Team Camas.

Krista Story was 27th in 19:17.2, Noelle Ball 71st in 20:10.4 and Clare Dumont 101st in 20:57.9 to round out finishers for the Rapidos.

Participants from Wyoming, Washington, Idaho, Oregon, Montana, Alaska and Hawaii competed in the event.

Amy-Eloise Neale of Griz XC won the girls race in 17:29.3.

Sandpoint junior Sam Levora finished 17th in the boys championship flight race in 16:09.3. Joe Hardy of Blue Train won the race in 15:30.1.

In the boys varsity race, Kyler Little of Lake City finished second in 16:25.7, and teammate Jake Finney finished fourth in 16:39.7. Leif Fredericks of Coeur d'Alene Charter was 15th in 16:59.3.

Mikhaela Woodward finished 24th in the girls varsity race in 20:27.9 for the Sandpoint Harriers, which finished ninth out of 12 teams.

Medals were given to the top 20 in each race.
