SPIRIT LAKE - J.D. Page struck out 15 of 24 batters faced to lead the Timberlake Tigers past the Bonners Ferry Badgers 7-1 in the second round of the 3A District 1-2 baseball tournament on Friday.

Timberlake (13-5) will face St. Maries (10-9) today at 11 a.m., with the winner advancing to the state 3A tournament at Treasure Valley Community College in Ontario, Ore.

"It was exactly what we needed to do," Timberlake coach Bill Rider said. "Now we need to go out and do it again tomorrow. I'm proud of our guys. They were great today."

Casey Rogstad had a two-run single in the first inning and John Galloway had a two-run triple in the fourth for Timberlake.

Mike Clarkson singled to score Alex Awbrey in the seventh for Bonners Ferry (7-9), which faces Priest River (6-12) in a loser-out game at 1 p.m.

The loser of the championship game and winner of the loser-out game will play at 3 p.m. for the second berth to state.

SPIRIT LAKE - Ashton Stephenson pitched a one-hitter, and went 4 for 5 and drove in five runs, to lead the Lumberjacks past the Spartans and into the title game of the 3A District 1 tournament at Timberlake.

Stephenson, batting around .400 this year, hit two doubles in a nine-run first inning for St. Maries (10-9), the second one driving in two runs. He also had a two-run double in the second and an RBI single in the fourth.

The top three hitters for St. Maries went 9 for 11 with eight RBIs and six runs scored. Leadoff hitter Jordan Stapleton was 3 for 3 with three runs and an RBI, and D.J. Turner was 2 for 3 and drove in two runs.

The lone hit for Priest River (6-12) was an RBI single by Ashton Brooks in the third inning.

SPIRIT LAKE - Kodi Kuykendall went 2 for 2 with three runs scored, and Nicole Cameron had 10 strikeouts, as the Tigers beat the Wildcats in the semifinals of the 3A District 1-2 tournament at Timberlake High.

"I thought it was a well-rounded game," Timberlake coach Mike Menti said. "We played good defense and were aggressive on offense and did what we had to go to get the win."

Cameron struck out the side in the second and fifth inning for Timberlake (13-5), which faces Priest River (13-6) in the championship game today at 11 a.m. The Spartans beat St. Maries in the other semifinal.

Haley Dulaney had an RBI single in the fourth for Kellogg (5-11), which faces St. Maries in a loser-out game today at 1 p.m.

Earlier, Kellogg (5-10) defeated Bonners Ferry (5-12) in a loser-out game 7-6 and will face St. Maries today at 1 p.m. in another loser-out game.

Finals set in 5A Region 1 tourney

COEUR d'ALENE - Two doubles teams from Coeur d'Alene, and one each from Lake City and Post Falls, are guaranteed berths to state following the first day of the 5A Region 1 tennis tournament at Coeur d'Alene High and Lake City High.

All qualified by reaching the finals, which are scheduled for today at noon at Coeur d'Alene.

Luke Ness and Matt Finney of Lake City will face James Buckle and Dan Schaefer of Post Falls in the boys doubles finals. Both teams have qualified for state.

Sonja Jacobson and Alexis Carlsen of Coeur d'Alene made the finals in girls doubles, and Topher Carson and Sloane Booterbaugh of Coeur d'Alene will play for the title in mixed doubles.

The top three finishers in each division advance to state next Friday and Saturday at Timberline High in Boise.

Sandpoint rolls onĀ first day in 4A

SANDPOINT - It will be all-Sandpoint finals in boys singles, girls singles and boys doubles at the 4A Region 1 tennis tournament at Travers Park.

The finals and consolation action continues today, starting at 9 a.m. at Travers Park. The losers of the finals will then face the winners of the consolation bracket in the true double-elimination tournament, with the top two from each bracket advancing to state.

COEUR d'ALENE - Jarrett Johnson scored five goals as host Coeur d'Alene went on to beat Lake City in North Idaho Lacrosse League play.

Coeur d'Alene (11-3, 11-1 NILL), which has wrapped up the top seed to the league tournament next week, and will host the No. 4 seed in the semifinals on Wednesday.

Caden Robertson scored four goals for Lake City (7-4 NILL), which plays host to University on Monday in its regular season finale.
