Lewiston standout Phillips signs to play hoops at EWU

Tisha Phillips, a 5-10 guard who led Lewiston High to the past two state 5A girls basketball championships, has signed a letter of intent to play basketball at Eastern Washington University, Eagles coach Wendy Schuller announced.

Phillips, who was named 2012 Idaho Gatorade Girls Basketball Player of the Year, averaged 15 points, 5.1 rebounds, 4.1 steals and 2.2 assists as a senior at Lewiston (22-4). She set state 5A tournament records for free throws made in a game (18) and in the tournament (34).

Phillips, a two-time first-team All-Idaho selection, was the 2012 All-5A Inland Empire League Player of the Year. In 2011, she was tabbed as the league's Newcomer of the Year.

Phillips transferred to Lewiston after two years at Lapwai High, where the Warriors won the Idaho 1A Division I championship in 2009, and finished as the runner-up in 2010.
