GREY WOLF: May be only animal left

| March 30, 2012 9:00 PM

I am writing a letter to the editor concerning my thoughts on the grey wolf population in the Idaho panhandle.

My dad and I recently attended a fish and game meeting discussing hunting opportunities in the panhandle. One of the topics discussed was low cow to calf elk ratios in unit 4, and apparently there are no longer enough elk for hunters like me to harvest a cow elk any longer in unit 4.

I am sure that there are other factors leading to the population decline other than the wolf, but the fact is that the grey wolf is a predator and our elk numbers are diminishing very rapidly due to the wolf. I think that the federal government needs to rethink their plan on having the grey wolf here any longer or it may be the only animal left in the forest.

Thank you,
