F. Hazel Dennis, 102

F. Hazel Dennis, resident of Coeur d’Alene, died March 11, 2012, in Coeur d’Alene. She was born Nov. 17, 1909, in Renick, W.Va., to Milton and Emma McMillion.

She married R.W. Dennis on Aug. 18, 1935, in Lemmon, S.D. She worked as a telegraph operator for the Milwaukee Railroad for 13 years in South Dakota before becoming a high school English teacher in Vienna, S.D., and later worked for Welcome Wagon and Dennis Insurance office in Coeur d’Alene. They moved to this area in 1946 after living through the “Dust Bowl” in South Dakota and Minnesota.

She was a member of Community United Methodist Church for more than 50 years, the Ladies 9-Hole Golf Club, Queen Esther Chapter No. 12 Order of the Eastern Star for 82 years and a member of the Lady Lions for 50 years. Hazel was an avid reader, played golf and wrote and published two books.

She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Bill and Lynn of Hayden, Dale and Barbara of Coeur d’Alene, and Donn and Doniece of Dalton Gardens; daughter and son-in-law, Joan and John Pucci of Sandpoint; nine grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two brothers, one grandson and one great-granddaughter.

The family would like to thank the Beehive Homes, Courtyard 4, for their special care and love for Hazel over the past four years and Auburn Crest Hospice of Post Falls, for their care since November 2011.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 20, 2012, at English Funeral Chapel, Coeur d’Alene, with a reception to follow. Burial will be held at Forest Cemetery, Coeur d’Alene, following the reception.
