Schools locked down on Tuesday

Fernan Elementary and Lakes Magnet Middle schools in Coeur d'Alene were briefly locked down at 2 p.m. Tuesday while police searched for a man reported to be on foot with a knife near 20th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue.

The schools were locked down for 10 minutes and reopened when officers determined a verbal altercation had occurred in the area, but no knife was involved, the release said.

There were no arrests.

The incident was not expected to affect school dismissals.

Golf tourney

set for May 11

The 3rd annual On Par for a Cure Golf Tournament is scheduled for May 11 at The Coeur d'Alene Resort Golf Course

Proceeds benefitthe Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

The tournament includes water taxi transportation; forecaddie per Foursome; unlimited use of the over-the-water driving range; customized golf car and a Floating Green personalized engraved bag tag. Each member of the winning foursome wins a free round of golf.

It also includes music, dinner, and silent auction in the Hagadone Event Center.

The price is $150 per person.
