Cougs top Dons in CBI opener

SAN FRANCISCO - Brock Motum scored 24 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead the Washington State men's basketball team to an 89-75 victory over the University of San Francisco in the first round of the College Basketball Invitational on Tuesday night at War Memorial Gym.

Washington State (16-16) will play the winner of tonight's North Dakota State-Wyoming game next Monday at a site to be determined.

Reggie Moore added 18 points and six assists for the Cougars, and Marcus Capers had 12 points and eight assists.

Washington State built a 14-point first half lead before settling for a 35-34 lead at halftime.

Cole Dickerson, in his first start of the season, led the Dons (20-14) with 19 points and 11 rebounds. Michael Williams scored 20 points.

WSU shot 60.4 percent (29 of 48) from the field, and held USF to 36.2 percent (21 of 58) shooting. WSU's bench outscored the Dons' bench 17-0.
