Police probe pair of burglaries

COEUR d'ALENE - Burglars ransacked two Coeur d'Alene homes just blocks apart in recent days.

Whoever was responsible for the burglaries pried open doors to make entry, dumped drawers and rifled through the owners' belongs, but took little of value at either location, police reports state. In one case the homeowner was inside the residence.

Sometime between Friday and Tuesday, in the 300 block of West Haycraft Avenue, burglars entered a secured residence.

The owner had left the home on Friday and returned Tuesday to find the front door had been kicked in and items inside the residence strewn about.

Officers were called and responded, finding drawers pulled out of cabinets and turned upside down in every room in the house.

The victim said every room in her house appeared to have been gone through extensively.

Nothing appeared damaged and obviously valuable items were not taken, including a large flat-screen TV and some checkbooks.

A $100 bill was taken, along with a digital camera.

Police found pry marks on a door. There was a slight shoe print near the bottom of the door, the report said.

The door frame at the deadbolt and door handle was smashed inward from being forced open. About $200 damage was done to the door, the report said.

On Wednesday, the victim dropped off a list of stolen property from the burglary. The list included a weedeater, a VHS camcorder, a printer, a cell phone, and a key fob, among other items.

On Saturday morning, on the 2300 block of North Eighth Street, a woman said she heard an unfamiliar noise while she was in the bathroom at 5:30 a.m.

She investigated and found drawers and cabinets in multiple rooms were opened.

She said it looked like somebody had gone through them looking for something, she told police. She said some of her items appeared to be in the proper place, but were stacked differently than before.

A prescription bottle that was in a kitchen cabinet was now on the kitchen counter, but none of the pills were missing, the report said.

She showed police the back door, which had pry marks on it and was damaged. Police estimated there was $600 damage to the door, door jamb, trim and locks, the report said.
