Cd'A man dies in North Dakota accident

A Coeur d'Alene man died following a two-vehicle accident Saturday night in North Dakota.

According to the North Dakota Highway Patrol, Douglas E. Bennett, 20, was northbound in a 2002 Ford F-350 when he passed through the intersection on U.S. Highway 2 and North Dakota Highway 1804 and struck the eastbound trailer of a 2012 Kenworth semi.

Police said Bennett died at the scene, near Williston. The driver of the semi, James Orville Gunter, 45, of Sagle, wasn't injured.

An investigation continues.

Home break-in reported in Cd'A

A Coeur d'Alene woman reported someone entered and searched her home while she was sleeping.

The resident in the 2300 block of Eighth Street told police she went to bed about midnight Saturday and woke up around 5:30 a.m.

She said she heard an "unfamiliar noise" and went to investigate. When she walked into an adjacent room and turned on the lights, she saw what she thought was the aftermath of a "tremor."

"The drawers and cabinets in multiple rooms were opened and pulled out," the police report said. "It looked like somebody went through her things as if they were looking for something."

The woman noticed that some things were in their proper place, but stacked differently than before. A prescription bottle that was in a kitchen cabinet was now on the kitchen counter, but none of the pills were missing.

According to the report, it appeared someone entered the home through a back door by prying it open.

The woman said nothing was taken from her house and she had no suspects.

Post Falls school holds cell phone fundraiser

Post Falls Middle School's parent-teacher-student organization has started cell phone fundraising program.

Proceeds from the collection program benefit improvements to the building and educational programs.

The nonprofit can earn up to $30 per cell phone and up to $100 per smartphone. Every phone collected will earn funds, regardless of age or condition.

"Donating a used, unwanted cell phone allows community members to donate to an important cause without reaching into their wallets," said Tiffany Williams, president of the organization. "With the hundreds of thousands of used cell phones sitting idly in our community, the fundraising potential is almost limitless."

The group has partnered with GRC Wireless Recycling (www.grcrecycling.com) in the program.

Cell phone collection drop boxes are at Post Falls Middle School, Post Falls Family Dental, Capone's Pub and Grill in Post Falls and Super 1 Foods-Post Falls.

The PTSO is additionally soliciting local businesses to initiate collection campaigns with its employees, customers and vendors.

For more information, call Williams at 773-7554.
