Fishing tournament Saturday

| June 21, 2012 9:15 PM

Those looking for an excuse to fish can help local teachers buy supplies this month.

The "Hooked on Education" fishing tournament, scheduled from 12:01 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, June 23 at Hayden Lake, is aimed at raising funds for the Coeur d'Alene High School Viking Education Foundation and Boosters Club.

All proceeds from entries will go to the organization, which provides funds for the high school athletics, as well as basic supplies for teachers.

"What we've done is expand (the booster club) to include the Viking Foundation, to bridge the gap for teachers," said Chris Costa, president of the booster club and executive director of the foundation. "Non-athletic activities like fine arts, music, math, some of these teachers are buying supplies out of their own pockets."

The fishing tournament will contribute to a fund to cover those costs, he said.

The tournament costs $30 for adults, which includes a T-shirt and dinner.

Kids 13 and under are free.

First place wins $100, second $50 and third $25.

Folks can register at Fins and Feathers Tackle Shop and Guide Service, and at Coeur d'Alene High School. They can also register online at www.vikingfoundation.org.

For more information, call Costa at: 818-4543.

"If we come out with a net profit of $100, it will be worth it," Costa said. "Every dollar we raise is going to help somebody."
