Florence Gilmore, 90

Florence E. (Buffan) Gilmore, lived a fulfilling and active 90 years before passing away at her Hayden home on June 17, 2012.

She was born Aug. 28, 1921, in Griffin, Saskatchewan, Canada, to Frederick Buffan and Martha Robinson. They moved to Northport, Wash., where she attended school and graduated from Northport High School. After graduating high school, Florence moved to Spokane where she attended Kinman Business College. It was in Spokane that she would meet and marry Jack Hall Taylor in 1940. Together they had three children, Mary, James and Daniel. They set their roots in Coeur d’Alene where all three children attended school. In 1956, Jack was tragically killed in a car accident.

In 1960 Florence married E. Gene Gilmore and they settled in Hayden. They shared 34 wonderful years together until Gene passed away in 1994.

Florence was a member of the Hayden Gems Senior Center and the Hayden Eagles Lodge. Her hobbies included reading, riding horses, playing cards and spending as much time as she could with family and friends. She was an exceptional mother, grandmother, sister and friend, always putting others needs before her own. You would always find an open home, open arms and an open heart when you visited Florence. She was a gracious host, usually not letting you escape without fixing you something to eat.

She is survived by her daughter, Mary Leaf of Orofino; her son, Daniel Taylor of Hayden; a brother, Russ Carlson and wife Myrte of Northport, Wash.; sisters-in-law, Shirley Seehorn of Rockford, Wash., and Lorraine Buffan of Northport; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Florence was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Alice Buffan; husband Jack Hall Taylor; a brother, Raymond Carlson; a son, James Taylor; husband E. Gene Gilmore; a brother, Herb Buffan; son-in-law Frank Leaf; daughter-in-law Maureen Taylor and stepdaughter Gena (Gilmore) Sylte.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 25, 2012, at Coeur d’Alene Memorial Gardens with Yates Funeral Home, Coeur d’Alene, in care of the arrangements. You may visit Florence’s memorial and sign her online guest book at www.yatesfuneralhomes.com.
