Videos: Petition delivery to city hall

| June 11, 2012 7:41 AM

The signed recall petitions that seek to oust Coeur d'Alene Mayor Sandi Bloem and City Council members Deanna Goodlander, Mike Kennedy and Woody McEvers were delivered to City Clerk Susan Weathers at 9 a.m. this morning.

The documents were carried in by recall organizers Frank Orzell and Bill McCrory as supporters cheered, some wearing paper boat hats and shaking noisemakers.

Orzell returned outside to speak to recall supporters as the petitions were inside city hall being stamped and scanned in preparation for delivery to County Clerk Cliff Hayes' office where workers will verify that all signatures are by registered voters who live in Coeur d'Alene. The process must be completed by June 19.

At one point, Orzell suggests the group take a moment of silence. The Press has learned that Marv Lekstrum, a Lakes Highway District Commissioner, has died. The group's prayers were for him.

Recall organizer Mary Souza reported online Sunday that Recall CdA is turning over "well over 5,311 signatures." They need 4,311 valid signatures to put a recall election before voters.
