CONTEST: For wealthy babies only

| June 6, 2012 9:15 PM

The Coeur d’Alene Press recently held a Cutest Baby Contest that required a $10 entry fee per baby photo. Each person was allowed one free vote per day. However, if you paid additional money you could buy up to 200 extra votes per day.

I must be missing something. I always thought that a contest was a competition for a prize or title with the winner being chosen by a group of judges. I guess I was wrong. Those of us who managed to afford the $10 entry fee were under the impression that the “contest” would be decided by the number of votes for each baby, not the size of someone’s pocketbook.

Evidently this contest is decided by the person with the most money to spend who is able to purchase as many votes as they please (calling them donations doesn’t change anything). I think this “contest” should be called what it really is, the “Richest Baby Contest.”
