McEUEN: A lot of fun as it is

| June 1, 2012 9:00 PM

McEuen Park seemed extra nice this Memorial Day for those of us who spent part of our day there. The weather could have been a little nicer, but that didn’t stop a large number of people from enjoying the park area.

I was there for about two hours and observed a lot of activity. Many people were hiking Tubbs Hill, some were walking their dogs, people were tossing balls and Frisbees, some were having picnics. I longed for summer to watch a baseball game on fields teeming with players and fans screaming with delight.

I walked the boardwalk and was amazed to see so many boats coming and going this early in the season. People were launching their water craft one after another and the boat ramps stayed very busy. How sad it would be to lose this great tourist asset.

I observed many out of town and foreign visitors enjoying our current facilities, and wondered why anyone would even suggest ripping the McEuen Park area up to start all over for a multi-million dollar money pit. Let’s just improve what’s already there, and give the Merry Go Round a new home in McEuen.

Hands off our gems, McEuen, Tubbs Hill and the boat launch. We don’t want them to resemble crowded, littered, un-kept, big city parks.
