Slezak gets connected to serve
Volunteer Spotlight
Leslie Slezak found her opportunity to serve by using the United Way's Volunteer Center online which connected her to the Jacklin Arts and Culture Center (JACC). It was a perfect match for both she and the center! When you meet Leslie, she is all smiles and full of energy. If you have never been to the JACC she will gladly give you a tour of the beautiful facility where she is so proud to volunteer.
"Leslie has been an amazing volunteer for The Jacklin Arts and Culture Center, donating her time to help us with cooking classes, concerts, and even office work," said Lisa Spink, executive director. "She is an energetic, passionate advocate for the arts and has helped the JACC in many diverse ways. She is an artist herself and always has great ideas for different ways of improving our nonprofit. Having Leslie on board, as well as all of our other amazing volunteers, helps fulfill our mission of igniting and enriching a passion for the arts."
Leslie continues to make volunteering a part of her life. Before moving to North Idaho two years ago she volunteered for The Make a Wish Foundation and Habitat for Humanity. Six months ago when she saw the opportunity to volunteer for a cooking class at the JACC she thought it sounded like fun. She said it just led to more and more. "She is absolutely amazing and goes above and beyond," said Spink.
"It is an amazing place and it is fun to be a part of the events here... there is something for everyone if they want to get involved," said Slezak.
As an artist who enjoys pottery, Leslie feels it is really important to promote the arts. As a passionate volunteer she encourages others to get involved in volunteerism. "Get involved in anything you believe in. Find time even if it is only a few hours a week. Give back. Don't be scared to get involved," said Slezak.
"Helping people like Leslie find their niche is part of what we do," said Caryl Johnston, executive director of United Way. "I'd like to invite others to take a look at the United Way online Volunteer Center. Find your passion, a place you would feel good about serving. Get involved."
