Loggers secure berth to state A tourney

ST. MARIES - Brent Wingham allowed three hits and struck out five over seven innings as the fifth-seeded Coeur d'Alene Loggers earned a state tournament berth by defeating the third-seeded St. Maries Savages 5-2 in a semifinal game in the class A Area A tournament on Saturday.
With the win, Coeur d'Alene (22-22) advanced to today's 3 p.m. championship game against the winner of the Lewis-Clark/St. Maries loser-out game at noon. Both teams in the championship game will advance to the state A tournament starting Thursday in Pocatello.
Hunter Bailey went 3 for 4 with an RBI and Sam Schultz had an RBI double for Coeur d'Alene.
