WRESTLING
Ridge Lovett of Post Falls won a pair of national championships at the 2012 Asics USA Wrestling Freestyle and Greco-Roman Nationals June 26-27 at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah.
Jason Burchell and Kyler Anstrom, both also of Team Real Life, were named All-American in both styles.
Lovett, a two-time defending national Greco champion, defeated returning All-American and Kansas state champion Jace Kolezer 6-0, 3-0 in the semifinals, then defeated Justin Hoyle of Washington 6-0, 3-2 to claim the Novice 70-pound national Greco-Roman title.
In freestyle, Lovett started the tournament by beating defending national freestyle champion Naoh Wachsmith of Oregon 9-1, 1-2, 4-2. Lovett went on to beat Beau Bartlett of Arizona in the championship match 6-0, 2-1, to claim the national freestyle title. Lovett finished the season ranked No. 1 overall in the nation in the USA Future Olympian Rankings.
Lovett, a 11-year-old, will be a sixth-grader at River City Middle School next year and just received the Presidential Academic Award for a 4.0 GPA and advanced scores on his placement tests. Lovett has won seven national titles in the last three years wrestling for Able Delarosa at Team Real Life Wrestling Club in Post Falls.
Jason Burchell of Athol placed in both national tournaments as well. Burchell, competing at Novice 105, placed fourth in Greco-Roman and third in freestyle. Burchell was placed on the Honorary National Freestyle Team. In April, Burchell placed seventh in the Folkstyle Nationals, making him an All-American in all three wrestling styles. Burchell finished the season ranked second in the USA Wrestling Future Olympian National Rankings.
Kyler Anstrom of Spokane Valley was an All-American in both styles. Anstrom, a 75-pound Intermediate, placed fourth in Greco Roman and fifth in freestyle. Anstom finished the season with a fifth-place national ranking.
Lakeland Wrestling Club wrestlers William Edelblute and Larry Johnson were both named All-Americans in Greco-Roman. Edelblute place fifth at Novice 65 pounds, and Johnson placed eighth at Schoolboy 77 pounds. Edelblute finished the season with a national ranking of eighth.
JUI-JITSU
A total of 13 members of the Ironlion Elite Youth Jiu-Jitsu Team, which trains in Dalton Gardens, will be competing at the 2012 Kids World Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Championships this Saturday and Sunday in San Bernardino, Calif.
This tournament will feature the best kids in the world including competitors from Brazil, Cuba and Guam, etc. Members representing the Ironlion Elite team include Jakan Lawrence, 6, Owen Jones, 6, Marco Lenhart, 6, Kyle Bridge, 7, Logan Paul, 8, Issac Lawrence, 10, Brelane Huber, 10, Jagger Wise, 12, Sarah Paul, 12, Delwyn Jones, 12, Brayden Huber, 12, Josiah Paul, 15, and Zane Douglas, 17.
The team's most recent victory was at the Revolution Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu & Submission Wrestling Tournament July 7 in Bonney Lake, Wash. They captured every single team championship title including the Youth Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Championship, the Youth Submission Wrestling Championship and the Youth Overall Championship.
They came back with 26 medals including 16 gold, 6 silver and 4 bronze. They are coached by head instructor Derek Cleveland and coaches Cody Cox Dyton Galliher.
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a grappling based art which includes takedowns, throws, control over an opponent, joint lock submissions, chokes and more. It's an art with a rich history that goes back to ancient Samurai times. The art has been cultivated into a sport that is now worldwide with hopes of becoming an Olympic sport soon.

FOOTBALL
Lake City High head football coach Van Troxel heads the instructional staff for the Lake City Junior Tackle Football Camp, scheduled for July 24-27 from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. each day at Lake City High School.
The camp is for those entering grades 3-8.
Equipment checkout, as well as registration and check-in, is scheduled for July 24 from 8 to 9 a.m.
Players will need a practice jersey, football shoes and gym shorts.
Cost is $55 per player, which includes a camp T-shirt. This padded camp is a non full-contact camp; players will be in helmets and shoulder pads.

Hayden Little League and the Coeur d'Alene High School Viking Dugout Club are teaming up to put on a fundraiser golf tournament Aug. 9 at Avondale Golf Club in Hayden Lake, with a 1 p.m. shotgun start.
Golfers have a choice of playing in a four-man scramble or a four-man best ball. Cost is $65 per person - $40 for Avondale members.
Hole sponsors and auction items are also being sought.
Proceeds will go to the Hayden Little League and the Coeur d'Alene High baseball program.
