Dog Days at Dover Bay this weekend

SANDPOINT - Dover Bay is going to the dogs during the weekend of July 14 and 15.

A fundraising event for Panhandle Animal Shelter, Dog Days at Dover Bay will feature something for every attendee, whether they be young or old, male or female, bipedal or four-legged.

On Saturday, attendees will have the chance to check out sheep-herding demonstrations at 11:30 a.m. and fly ball at noon. A team in competitive agility, a sport in which handlers direct dogs through an obstacle course, will be showing off their skills at 12:15 p.m. and providing pointers for individuals who believe their pet might have the makings of a top athlete. Attendees can even run their pooch through a sample course at 1 p.m.

Over on the main stage, at 1 p.m. a dog contest will evaluate local pets in categories like best trick, cutest dog, ugliest dog, service dog, smallest dog and biggest dog.

People can grab brunch from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday at Dover Bay Cafe before returning for more events like dock diving and fly ball. There will be live music, too.

Toyota Tuesday at Silverwood on July 17 and 24

Silverwood Theme Park is letting the driver of any Toyota get in free Tuesdays, July 17 and 24, when they bring an admission coupon obtained from any Inland Empire regional Toyota dealer.

Simply have the coupon validated on the way into the general parking lot, take the coupon to the Toyota Tuesday booth at the front gate and exchange it for a general admission ticket.

Three handguns stolen from Cd'A home

COEUR d'ALENE - Three handguns were stolen during the burglary of a Coeur d'Alene home.

According to a police report, the victims were away from their St. Maries Avenue house from June 25 to July 10. When they returned, they discovered someone had broken in and ransacked the home. Cabinets, drawers and cupboards were opened and items tossed around.

Reported missing were firearms, including a Springfield XD 45 valued at $600, a Ruger Redhawk, valued at $830, and a Ruger Mark III, valued at $600. A Sony Playstation valued at $300 was also taken, the victims told police.

The report said someone entered the home by breaking a window, then using a ladder to climb inside.

Injury crash blocks U.S. 95 for two hours

A Post Falls man was injured and southbound U.S. 95 was blocked for two hours early Thursday when the vehicle he was driving collided with a tractor-trailer at the intersection of U.S. 95 and State Highway 53.

Kyle Cox, 25, was driving a 1997 Chevrolet pickup southbound on U.S. 95 approaching the intersection when, according to a report from Idaho State Police: "For unknown reasons, Cox did not see the traffic signal that was red."

Cox's vehicle collided with the semitrailer as it was turning northbound from Highway 53 onto U.S. 95. The crash occurred at 3:44 a.m.

Cox was transported to Kootenai Medical Center where he remained Thursday in fair condition.

Donald Bauer, 56, of Spokane, the driver of the Freightliner semitrailer, was not injured.

The southbound lanes of U.S. 95 were blocked until 5:45 a.m.

The ISP report indicates a citation was issued, but no other details about the citation are available at this time.
