HEALTH: Decision time for businesses

| July 8, 2012 9:00 PM

“Read my lips.” This statement was the undoing of President Bush after he countered his statement by raising taxes. Time and time again, President Obama has stated that anyone making less than $250,000 a year would not pay more taxes, “Not none red cent.” We now see that everyone will be paying more taxes; this includes all people of high, middle and low-income groups.

What has only received modicum analysis is what this health plan will do to the job market. If an employer has 50 or fewer employees, he doesn’t have to provide insurance for those working for him. Anyone employing over 50 will have to participate in their insurance cost.

I am curious as to what those in favor of this health plan would do if they owned a struggling business in this economy with 56 to 60 employees. Would they gladly pay out two to three hundred dollars a month for each person working for them, or would they decrease the workforce by five to 10 employees?
