LEGION BASEBALL: Hoffman's gem lifts Lums past Okotok at tournament
* SENIOR DIVISION
COEUR d'ALENE - Pete Hoffman struck out 12 and gave up four hits in a complete-game shutout as the Coeur d'Alene Lumbermen beat the Okotok (Alberta) Dawgs 1-0 and improved to 2-0 in the McEuen Field Pod of the Spokane/Coeur d'Alene Wood Bat Classic Senior Division on Wednesday.
"Pete threw one of those games that you see only once a season - it was beautiful," Lumbermen coach Lloyd Duman said. "He was in command of all his pitches and he had their batters guessing."
Coeur d'Alene's Colin Comack had a double among his three hits and Grant Curtis' RBI single in the fourth knocked in Chad Nyquist for the game's lone run.
"Okotok is a very, very good team," Duman said. "It was probably one of the best teams, if not the best team we will see this year."
