Harold Shobe, 61
Harold Lee Shobe, 61, passed on at Rose Terrace Cottage, in Coeur d’Alene, on May 27, 2012, after an extended illness.
Harold was born on April 13, 1951, to Charles and Freda (Haynes) Shobe in Gillette, Wyo. When Harold was a boy, the family moved several times, and his teen years were spent in Ponderay, Idaho. He met Janet Brown, in Sandpoint, and they were married in 1972.
That same year, Harold joined the U.S. Navy and was stationed on the U.S.S. Constellation in the Philippines as an Airman.
In 1975, after his discharge, the family moved to Gillette, Wyo. And in 1985, they were finally able to return to “God’s Country”: North Idaho.
He worked construction painting and house painting for many years, but he was a born mechanic, and that was what he did his whole life.
Harold enjoyed fishing, camping, panning for gold, watching races, and bowling. His primary passions were cars and riding his motorcycle.
He is survived by his wife, Janet; daughter Brenda Hammond (Jody); grandchildren Forrestt and Wynter Clabaugh, Violet, Daphnee, Jody Jr., and Drew, all of Coeur d’Alene; Father, Charles Shobe, of Wyoming; brother Chuck (Marcie) Shobe, of Sandpoint, and Mike (Barb) Shobe of Gillette, Wyo.; sisters Margie Pratt, of Wyoming, Tricia (Bob) Berger, of Walla Walla, and Connie (Wayne) Cundy, of Fernley, Nev.; as well as many aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews.
Harold was preceded in death by his son Charles; his mother Freda; and his brothers Art and Jerry.
During the last two and a half years of his battle with Huntington’s Disease, Harold resided at Rose Terrace Cottages. With their care and the exceptional staff at Arbor Crest Hospice, Harold was happy and comfortable as possible. He developed a special bond with Theresa Borley, the house manager at cottage A, as well as Dave Roberts, Hospice Chaplain.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, July 14, 2012, at Family Worship Center, 697 W. Dalton Ave., in Hayden.
