RANGELY, Colo. - Freshman Angela Woods scored a team-high 18 points to lead the 10th-ranked North Idaho Cardinals past the Colorado Northwestern Spartans 84-74 in a Scenic West Athletic Conference women's basketball game on Saturday.

Woods also grabbed six rebounds, four on the offensive boards for NIC.

"Angela, whether rebounding or hitting 3s for us, played well tonight," NIC coach Chris Carlson said.

NIC opened a 20-point lead in the second half, but Colorado Northwestern rallied to within nine.

"We got up on them, but they battled back," Carlson said. "They played their best game of the year and hit a lot of shots. They played really hard."

Korina Baker and Ashleigh Kelman-Poto added 14 points apiece for NIC (16-2, 5-0 SWAC), which shot 24 of 30 from the free-throw line.

"We were shooting in the bonus 2 1/2 minutes into the second half," Carlson said. "Their coach really challenged them to compete. It was a war."

Jaynelle Johnson scored 20 points for Colorado Northwestern (9-10, 0-5).

NIC returns to action at Salt Lake on Friday.
